This post is for all the people who HATE taking baths. Whether you think they’re gross or a waste of time, I’m going try to change your mind!!

Bubble baths have many amazing benefits for your physical and mental health! You’re probably just going about it all wrong. “You’re sitting in your own filth,” “Who wants to just sit in water.” If you’re one of those people, hear me out for a bit. I’m going to show you how to take a “spa-like” bubble bath that you’ll actually enjoy.

Benefits of Taking a Hot Bubble Bath

Baths aren’t just a nice relaxing way to end your day. There are actually many proven benefits of taking a hot bath. For starters, baths are proven to increase your mood! As odd as it sounds, sitting in a hot bath resembles the warmth and comfort of the womb and actually releases positive feelings that come from deep within your subconscious!

Baths also help improve circulation and soothe sore muscles. The heat gets your blood pumping, helping to release muscle tension.

Baths can be even more beneficial when adding certain things like essential oils, epsom salts, or even simple ingredients found in your kitchen.

These types of baths can help with things like skin irritation, congestion and headaches. So lets get into how you can spice up your bubble bath!

Steps to a Great Bubble Bath

Bubbles!!!

I know so many people that just don’t get their bath bubbly enough! Because of this, after a few minutes it is sort of like you’re just sitting in water. Definitely kills the vibe a bit.

You can find “Bubble Bath” soap in stores like Bath & Body Works, Lush, or even at a grocery store or pharmacy store. You can also just use body wash! You don’t need to spend a bunch of money to get a nice sudsy bath, you just need to know how to get the bubbles going.

By slowly pouring your soap right under the water faucet, the water will create air in the soap causing it to make bubbles. I like to pour a bit of soap in and then pause while I let the bubbles float out a bit. Then I pour more soap in and repeat this about 4 or 5 times. That will get you a couple great layers of bubbles to last!

Bath Salts

Adding bath salts or epsom salt is a great way to enhance the self-care level of your bubble bath! Epsom salts have many benefits like reducing aches and pains, soothing skin, and even reducing stress levels.

For an effective “Epsom Salt” bath, you’ll want to add between 2-4 cups of salts into your bath and soak in it for at least 20 minutes. You can dump the salts right into the bottom of the tub as the water is filling up so that they can dissolve as it fills.

Essential Oils

I love love love adding oils to my baths!! You only need a few drops to get your bath smelling great and feeling like a true spa setting. Before I get into the oils themselves, it is so important to know how to correctly add essential oils to your bath water.

You do not want to dump the oil directly in the water. It won’t dissolve into the water and can latch on to your skin possibly irritating it! Instead, combine a few drops of essential oils with about a tablespoon of a carrier oil such as olive or coconut. You can then add this mixture directly into your bath water.

There are so many different types of oils you can use depending on what you want out of your bath.

Lavender is a great oil to use for a late night bath. It helps to improve and soothe your mood, calming you down for a great night sleep. I use lavender at any time of the day just because of how calming it is. It’s also beneficial for sun-damaged skin.

Rose oil is great for calming your nervous system and can be combined with other oils for an ultra-soothing bath.

Orange essential oil is known to soothe muscles while adding a scent that may energize you for your day ahead. This can be great for a morning bath to start your day off right!

Candles

Again, we’re really trying to create a sensual spa-like atmosphere here so that it doesn’t feel like we’re just sitting in a tub. Ditch the over head lights, spark up some candles and place them around your tub!! Not only does this add a gentle calming element to your bath, but it adds even more soothing smells!

Keeping the essential oil theme going, I like to use Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy candles. My favorite scent is their stress relief, “Eucalyptus mint” candle.

Getting rid of the bright lights and sitting in candle light is own it’s own enough to create a great atmosphere for your bath!

Music or a Book

Assuming that this bubble bath is time for self-care and relaxation, I am a big advocate for ditching the phone!! Let’s take a break from the screen time to decompress and just be with ourselves for a bit.

Instead, find a nice playlist to soothe your mind during this time! Maybe you want to enjoy the silence while reading your favorite book. Maybe you do both!!

Either way, this will make your bubble bath more about taking a break from life to enjoy time for yourself and less about just sitting in water!

Bath Cushion

This is optional of course, as you’d have to buy one BUT, it really makes a difference! A lot of people can’t truly relax in a bath because the tub itself isn’t always the most comfortable.

Buying a nice bath cushion/pillow or even simply rolling up a towel for placing it behind your head and neck can allow you to truly relax during your bubble bath! You can order cheap ones online for around 10 dollars and enhance your bath experience with this added comfort!

Enjoy!!!

Incorporate just a few or all of these steps to create a true spa experience for yourself.

Hopefully this helps you enjoy baths a bit more so that you can give yourself some much needed self-care with all the added health benefits that come from taking nice, hot, bubble baths!
